How To Enjoy Exercise I'm told so often that people just HATE exercising so much that they just can't motivate themselves to do it. They know they should. They're told all the time about the health benefits of exercise. Yet, somehow, they just can't find the time in their busy schedule to make it happen. The sense of dread is too overwhelming; their free time is too precious to give up to such a boring and miserable task every day. If this sounds familiar, then these tips are for you! Tip # 1: Hone your skills. We naturally do things that we are good at or that we feel confident in. Working out is a skill (and an art) to be learned just like anything else. Don’t worry if at first you are a little clumsy or don’t know how to work a machine. We’ve all been there. It’s worth a little time and effort to learn all of the many things you can “play with” when you are working out. The gym really is just a big playground for grown-ups. Don't be intimidated... jump right in, and enjoy yourself!
Tip #2: Do what makes you happy. If you like to dance, then take a dance class. If you like to run, then go for it. Do something that you find fun – then you will find yourself looking forward to that time instead of dreading it. Don’t view exercise just as something you have to do to lose weight or burn calories; if you do, it will become drudgery. It’s easy to become bored and unmotivated that way.
Tip # 3: Reward yourself. Women are especially bad about beating themselves up emotionally. We are harder on ourselves than anyone else could ever be. Make a conscious choice to think positively about yourself and others. Treat yourself with something pleasurable every so often – whether that be a day of shopping with a friend, going to a movie, or having a treat to eat (in moderation, of course!)
Tip # 4: Train for others. Find a charity that is having a marathon of some sort, and then set a goal to train for it. It is very gratifying to know that you are helping others, while at the same time you are helping yourself.
